Tuna Can Drive for Relay for Life

Why are tuna cans so vital for Relay for Life?

One of the most moving parts of a Relay for Life is the Luminaria Ceremony. Participants who donate Luminaria bags are able to watch as luminarias transform in to beautiful, glowing tributes to light their walking path during the night portion of the event. Luminarias are dedicated to those who have fought a brave battle against cancer or who are currently fighting their fight. It's a small way to remember those who have lost their battle, support those who are fighting and to honor those who have won their fight.

So why tuna cans?

Tuna cans are needed to weigh down each luminaria bag so they can't fly away. It's the bags anchor to last the night as all the Relay for Life participants do the same. We need tons of tuna fish cans to weigh down all the luminarias. Even better, when Relay is over, the cans of tuna will be donated to local food shelters. It's a double whammy!

We will be accepting 6 oz. unopened tuna cans as well as 6 oz. unopened dog or cat food cans! The tuna will be donated to local food shelters and the animal food will be donated to the SPCA of Westchester!

We are looking for local businesses who are open to hosting a tuna can drive the week of May 17-May 24. We will provide you with a box, flyers and will do the pickup at the end of the week!

Please email Kristina at kcarmela89@gmail.com to get more information! Each business who hosts a drive will get free advertising listing that they are participating! So join us in one of the many ways in the fight against cancer!
