Relay for Life of Yorktown is very excited to begin, what will be, a wonderful journey with you! The main aspect of our blog will be sharing with you stories from Yorktown Relay members on how cancer has impacted their lives. Their experiences have changed them & influenced them to join in the fight against cancer by participating in Relay for Life. We hope our stories will inspire you to start your own Relay team to join us for the 2014 Relay for Life of Yorktown!
So what is Relay for life, you ask?!
"Relays are held in approximately 6,000 communities worldwide. In fact, Relay For Life is the largest fundraiser for cancer research and patient programs in the world and has been growing since its inception in 1985. In 2013, Westchester and Rockland County raised over $1,400,000 for research, education programs and patient services through Relay For Life, and with your help, we can do even more in 2014!
Relay For Life is more than a fundraising event: it is a worldwide movement to end cancer. Relay represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. It’s more important than ever that we continue to invest in this fight. Over 14 million Americans with a history of cancer are ALIVE today, and for the first time, cancer mortality rates are decreasing."
How can you join Relay for Life of Yorktown?

Creating a team is easy and quick! All you need to do is visit the Relay for Life website at: http://www.relayforlife.org/
From there, you'll see a box that says "Sign up for an event", and you can type in 10598 & search. The first Relay to appear will be Yorktown, and underneath it, click sign up to join us on June 13, 2014 for Relay!

Follow the steps to start a new team and invite your family and friends to join you. Fundraising can be a lot of fun if you do it with your favorite people!
Once you sign up as your team captain, you can join us at the Team Captains meeting on March 11, 2014 at 7 pm at the Yorktown Community & Cultural Center in town.Don't forget to like us on Facebook where you'll get meeting information, updates on Relay and support from this incredible community!
