Friends of the Somers Library kick off Annual Membership Drive

 FRIENDS MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE at the Somers library and that is why we would like to make some new Friends.

 The Friends of the Somers Library was formed in 1979, and over the years have raised funds thru membership dues, donations and book sales to provide financial support to the Somers library. 

 With the contributions of the community, the Friends have funded many of the programs that are hosted at the library, including educational classes for children, teens, and adults, as well as entertainment and musical events.   

Here is a short list of some of the adult events we sponsored in 2013:           iPad and iPhone –classes for beginners and intermediate users 

M&M production plays – “God of Carnage”  &  “Guilt and Gelt for the Holidays”

Workshops: Seed Saving Basics, Watercolor Basics, Public Speaking & Card Making

Sunday Concert Series performances by: Gerry Cruz & Friends, Too Human, Hudson Bells, Dmitri Kolesnik Jazz Trio, Cole Porter Tribute, and a Holiday Sing-Along with Joey D. Jazz Ensemble

Our children’s sponsored events this year included:

·         Ongoing babysitting classes for teens and pre-teens

·         Make a “Wild Thing” workshop

·         “Silly Sally Bubbles”  presentation

·         Science Tellers “Bugs of Blackwood”

·         Animal Embassy’s  “Digging into Nature”

·         First grade library tour – prizes

·         Pizza and a Movie nights

·         Halloween story time and  parade

The Friends have also provided financial support to the library for purchases of large print books, express books, movie licenses, new e-readers, snacks and reward incentives for the children’s programs and funding for the library’s new seed lending program.  All this would not be possible without your help.

Our annual membership drive starts January 2014. Membership forms can be picked up at the Somers Library, or you can send your check to - Friends of the Somers Library, PO Box 443, Somers, NY 10589.  Please include your name, address and e-mail address, which will assure timely notice of events.

 The Friends are a fully tax deductible 501(c3) organization. Annual dues are only $20 ($50 Patron, $100 Sponsor) and of course, a donation in any amount is gratefully accepted and appreciated. If you have a Matching Program at work, please remember us.
