Your Weekend: Yorktown Grange Fair; Tractor Parade; Flea Market

Whether you're in search of something fun to do with the kids or you have a babysitter and are planning a night out, look no further because Patch editors have picked a variety of events taking place to help you make the most of your weekend.

Yorktown: The 89th Annual Grange Fair

When/Where: The Yorktown Grange Fair began on Thursday and will last until Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Yorktown Grange Fair Grounds on Moseman Road

Description: The Grange Fair is all about showcasing local talent, whether it's raising the best rabbit, growing the biggest pumpkin, baking the tastiest pie, or knitting the best sweater. Local musicians also enjoy the spotlight as they perform live on the main stage.

Here is the schedule Friday evening, Sept. 6 kicks off at 6 p.m. with a return engagement by Unfunded Mandate, a classic rock/pop cover band comprised entirely of Lakeland School District staff and led by Dr. George Stone, the Lakeland Superintendent of Schools. At 8:30, Yorktown native and up-and-coming singer/songwriter Jessica Lynn and her 11-piece band take the stage in support of her debut country album titled “This Much Fun”.
 
Saturday afternoon, Annie & The Natural Wonder Band return to the Grange Fair to perform a special matinee performance at 12:30 p.m. Annie and her husband, Safari Bob, perform fun-filled interactive songs about the wonders of nature.
 
From 4:30 to 6:00pm, the First Friday Performers from the Yorktown Teen Center will highlight local teen musicians making a name for themselves. Then at 8 p.m. Saturday night, local favorite Chain of Fools featuring Larry Eidelman, aka Yorktown’s Public Safety Officer, will get everyone dancing when they perform all the best Motown, R&B, and funk from the 60’s to the 80’s.
 
On Sunday, the final day of the Fair, The Sundown Band – New York’s premier southern rock band – returns to headline the Grange Fair with two sets at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.. Celebrating their 10th anniversary of performing at the fair, The Sundown Band brings the true heart of southern rock’n’roll to Yorktown with their fiery dual guitar attack.

Yorktown: Antique Tractor Parade

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 7 at 12 p.m. at the Yorktown Community and Cultural Center Building

Description: The Yorktown Grange Fair's Antique Tractor Parade will begin on Veterans Road and proceed up Commerce Street and Hanover Street, ending at the Grange Fairgrounds where the tractors will all be on display.

Yorktown: Flea Market Returns

When/Where: Sunday, Sept. 8, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Fireman's Field.

Description: The Yorktown Flea is back. The entrance is between 257 and 271 Veterans Road. Your favorite vendors and some new ones, too.

Yorktown: Young Survivors Coalition Fundraiser


When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 7 at South Side Inn of Yorktown from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Description: Somers-based Elder Care Connection Inc.'s Senior Coordinator Andre M. will be riding for Young Survival Coalition, which helps women under 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer. There is a fundraiser this Saturday in Yorktown.

Somers: "What would you love in 2013?"

When/Where: Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Somers Library, Route 139 & Reis Park Somers

Cost: Free

Ardsley: Dog Days of Summer

Where/When: Anthony F. Veteran Park (11 Olympic Ln. Ardsley) on Sunday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why go: The Greenburgh Department of Parks and Recreation is closing out the summer season with a splash, as is tradition, with a dogs-only pool party on Sunday. Bring your friendly pooch to the pool to cool off with a dip and make some new canine companions. All participating dogs must register on-site and be licensed and have all current vaccinations.

Bronxville: Farmer’s Market

Where: 81 Pondfield Rd, Bronxville, NY 10708

Description: Vendors come from all over the Hudson Valley area to sell their fresh fruits, vegetables and other products at the Bronxville Farmers Market. At the Bronxville Farmers Market you can find organic produce, pasture-raised meats and poultry, maple syrup, pickles, cheese, breads, local wines and so much more.


Croton: The 6th annual Toughman Half Iron

Where: Sunday, Sept. 8, opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 a.m.

When: Croton Point Park, Croton

Cost: free to watch

Description: Spectators are welcome to cheer on the racers at Croton Point Park, where admission is free, and along the adult course through the Historic Hudson River Towns. Croton: Free Sail Ride at Hudson River Day

Where: Croton Yacht Club, 6 Elliot Way, Croton-on-Hudson

When: Saturday, Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: Free

Description: As part of the Croton Yacht Club's River Day and the Hudson River Valley Ramble, Ferry Sloops will be offering free sail rides at the Croton Yacht Club. The free hourly sails are on a "first come, first served" basis. No reservations will be accepted prior to the sail day. Guests can to sign up at the Ferry Sloops table in the tent beginning at 10 a.m. for any of the day's scheduled sail times. (limit of 4 passengers per sail).

Hastings: The Take Me to the River Music & Arts Festival

Where/When: Draper Park in Hastings on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 12 to 7 p.m.

Why go: Live performances, art installations and kid-friendly activities are on tap Saturday for the seventh annual arts and music festival in Hastings. Ossining: Annual Antiques and Collectables Fair

Where: Ossining Historical Society Museum, museum grounds at 196 Croton Avenue in Ossining

When: Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, (rain date Sept. 14, 2013).

Cost: free to browse

Sleepy Hollow: 17th Annual Sleepy Hollow Street Fair

Sleepy Hollow: Half Way to St. Patrick's Parade Party & Fundraiser

Tarrytown: Annual Robin Brittellia Memorial Run/Walk

Where: The Crest neighborhood in Tarrytown, starting and ending at the Crest Pool, 70 Midland Avenue.

When: Saturday, Sept. 7 starting at 8:30 a.m.

Cost: $35 pre-registration for participants, $40 on race day

Description: This 5K and kid's fun run are held annually to raise money in support of families affected by cancer and to provide academic/athletic scholarships to a Sleepy Hollow High School student. The race is held in honor of Brittilla, a community legend who died at the age of 51.


Tarrytown: 3rd Annual Car Show

Where: South Green Street Parking Lot, Tarrytown

When: Saturday, Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Description: Consolidated Engine hosts the 3rd Annual Anthony Ruggiero and John Kelly Memorial Car, Truck & Bike Show.
