Yorktown: Community Day and ‘Taste of Yorktown’

Description: The 24th annual Yorktown Community Day, which showcases local businesses and organizations. The day will include music, entertainment, games and activities. It will also highlight the culinary creations of local restaurants and amateur chefs that will compete in the 8th annual 'The Taste of Yorktown' cook-off.

Yorktown: Rock for Relay! Team Love Struck Fundraiser

Where: Yorktown Heights Fire House,1916 Commerce Street, Yorktown Heights
When: Saturday, June 1 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Description: Come by to do some shopping, enter some raffles and see what else may be in store at the event. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Yorktown Relay for Life team.

Yorktown: Hart Library Sunday Concert Series

Yorktown: 'No Child Wet Behind' Diaper Drive

Where: Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown
When: Saturday, June 1
Description: Organizers will host a "No Child Wet Behind" fundraising event and diaper drive to benefit the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless. The fun-filled day kicks off with race registration at 7:30 a.m. The 10K race will start at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m. and family fun run at 9:35 a.m.

Yorktown: An All Women Veteran-Civilian Dialogue

Where: Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown
When: Friday, May 31, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Description: What happens when Women Veterans return from military service and re-enter their lives back home? How do they re-adapt to civilian life? How do Civilian Women grapple with how to support and welcome them home? The Veteran-Civilian Dialogues is hosting an event in Yorktown to answer those questions.

Croton: Grundlovsdag Festival 2013

Description: The annual Grundlovsdag celebrates Danish Constitution Day on the beautiful picnic grounds of the Danish Home in Croton. The day begins with a Danish church service with Pastor Julie Sløk of the Danish Seamen's Church in Brooklyn. Vendors open at noon. Food vendors will sell Danish foods including traditional Danish smørrebrød (open-faced sandwiches), frikadeller (Danish meatballs), and wienerbrød (Danish pastry), as well as grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, strawberries & cream, Hawaiian shave ice, Carlsberg beer, and nonalcoholic refreshments. Also for sale will be handmade crafts, Danish teapots and coffeemugs, Danskofootwear, clothing, homemade rugbrød and leverpostej, and more. There will be a kids' activity area, the Tombola (with prizes of all sizes), the Art Barn (showcasing work from Danish-American artists), the annual raffle (with great prizes, click here for photos and a complete list), and vendors selling Danish cookies, rugbrød, knick-knacks, Dansko clogs, crafts, T-shirts, and more.


Irvington: Beltaine — a Celtic Celebration of Summer

Where: Irvington Public Library (12 S. Astor St.)
When: Saturday, June 1 at 2 p.m.Cost: Free
Description: Cate and Michael Cain, directors of Avoca Music School, will be performing traditional Irish ballads and jigs to welcome the arrival of summer. Traditional Irish step dancing will also be demonstrated. 

Pleasantville: Dixieland Express Jazz Band Concert

Where: Mount Pleasant Public Library
When: Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m.
Cost: Free
Description: The Dixieland Express Jazz Band specializes in Dixieland tradition of the early 20th century. Much of the group is made up of local musicians. This Sunday’s concert will feature the music of favorites like Al Jolson, George Gerswhin and Ethel Waters. 

Rye: Vehicle Fair 2013

Where: Osborn Elementary School, Rye
When: Sunday, June 2, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rain or Shine
Cost: Pre-buy tickets online at www.ryelibrary.orgfor $30 per family (PLUS get two raffle tickets. Buy tickets at the gate for $35 per family (Food not included in ticket price.)
Description: Exciting vehicles to climb, ride and explore. Lots of rides, games and inflatables; Ride, Dump Truck Toss, Bouncy House, Victory Lap Slide, All Aboard Train, Fire Truck Ride, Tiny Tikes, Face Painting and lots more. Entertainment by DJ Anthony Radice. Raffle with great prizes for children and adults. Food provided by Post Road Market and Longford’s Ice Cream. 

Rye: Butterfly Release – 3rd Annual Celebration of Life

Where: Rye Nature Center, 873 Boston Post Road
When: Saturday, June 1, 10:30 a.m. -  12 p.m.
Description: Hospice & Palliative Care of Westchester (HPCW) invites you to celebrate life and commemorate loved ones with a special butterfly release.  Members of the community are invited to purchase butterflies in memory of their loved ones and attend the event.  Butterflies will not be available for purchase on the day of the event.
