Olympian's Field Hockey Clinic; Yorktown Love in Action Fundraiser

Yorktown: Olympic Field Hockey Player Melissa Gonzalez to Hold Clinic at Lakeland High School

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rain date is Aug. 11

Lakeland High School, 1349 E Main Street in Shrub Oak.

Cost
: $75 per player

Description: Olympian Melissa Gonzalez, a Mohegan Lake native, is returning to her hometown to coach other aspiring field hockey players through her first clinic at Lakeland High School. She is hosting the field hockey clinic along with Olympic teammate Shannon Taylor. 

Yorktown: Summer Flea Market Fundraiser

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. 

Where: 3565 Crompond Road RT. 202 Parkside Plaza Yorktown

Cost: Free

Description: There will be vendors, food, drinks, face painting, entertainment and more. The fundraiser will benefit Yorktown Love in Action, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping local residents.


Somers: Moving Sale


Where: 2655 Amawalk Road Somers on Rt 35

When: Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  
Description: There will be household items, patio chairs, BBQ, stereo systems and furniture, including fulll size bedroom set, head and foot board, dresser and end tables; as well as a sofa table and coffee table on wheels.

The Muddy Puddles Project

Why go: It's been nearly 10 months since the passing of Ty Louis Campbell, a 5-year-old Pawling boy was battling brain cancer. His parents, who founded The Ty Louis Campbell Foundation, are committed to finding more treatment options for childhood cancer. 

This event aims to raise funds for that goal while remembering everyone's inner child. All proceeds will go to the Ty's foundation.

"Jumping in muddy puddles was the thing Ty wanted to do most when his cancer was cured..." Cindy Campbell, Ty's mother, said. "In celebration of Ty’s life, our goal is to inspire parents to let their children have more fun in honor of children, like Ty, who spend their childhood unable to embrace the simple joys of being a kid."

Events include everything from food fights and pie tosses to mud-jumping, obstacle courses. There will be paint and glitter, water balloon fights and much more.


Croton: Rummage Sale

Where: Temple Israel of Northern Westchester Glengarry Road, Croton on Hudson

When: Friday, August 9, 2013, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as well as Sunday, August 11 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Description: Calling all tag sale and rummage mavens! Come to this big sale. Monday will be Bag Day, which allows one price for everything that fits in one bag.


Elmsford: Teen and Tween Yoga

Where: Greenburgh Public Library, 300 Tarrytown Road, Elmsford

Description: The Village of Ossining’s Bicentennial Celebration continues with a showing of the 1975 cult classic Jaws on the beach at Louis Engel Waterfront Park. Tarrytown: Justin Hayward Performs

Katonah: Summer Fest in Katonah

Description: Big plates of peach shortcake, ice cream and whipped cream will be the featured attraction. Various children’s activities and games will be included. Mt. Kisco: Bees at Westmoreland Sanctuary

Where: Westmoreland Sanctuary, 260 Chestnut Ridge Rd. Mt. Kisco

Cost: Free for members, $5 for non-members

Description: Learn about the role of Honeybees and other native pollinators in our local environment.  A slide show and lecture explaining the role of insect pollination, natural history of the honey bee, and their relation to native insect pollinators will be followed by a walk outdoors to see who is pollinating flowers in the sanctuary’s gardens and habitats.  The walk will be canceled in the event of rain.
