Don't Miss 7 Great Events in Yorktown, Somers this Weekend

Events include rescheduled Candy Cane Runs with the local fire departments, Christmas carols, breakfast with Santa and a winter solstice celebration.

There are tons of ways to keep busy around Yorktown and Somers this weekend.  Here are the details for several great events.

Winery's Tree Lighting and Gabbie Sansone's Performance

Mohegan Lake's Gabrielle Sansone, a Lakeland High School freshman, will perform at the Winery at St. George this Friday, Dec. 20 at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Rescheduled Fire Department Candy Cane Runs

The Yorktown, Lake Mohegan and Somers fire department will hold their annual Candy Cane Runs this weekend, which were originally scheduled for last weekend. Santa will be making his way around town to hand out candy canes and spread some good old holiday cheer.

Yorktown Lions and American Legion Breakfast with Santa

Enjoy a breakfast or brunch with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty on Sunday, Dec. 22 at the Yorktown American Legion, 235 Veterans Road, Yorktown Heights, and take a picture with Santa. Seatings are 8-9:30 a.m., 10-11:30 a.m., or 12-1:30 p.m.. All guests must have a reservation and all children must attend with a parent or other adult.

The cost is $7 for children 2-12; $10 for children ages 13 and above. Children who are 1 and under go in for free. Call Maria Marks at 914-407-4162 or email yorktownlionsclub@gmail.com.

The event was originally scheduled for Dec. 15. 

Christmas Carols by Somers Women's Club 

Members will be singing carols at Somers Manor on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. They will be singing carols for about 45 minutes and would love some extra voices to join them. If you have any questions, email swcpresident@yahoo.com.

'Longest Night Service'

On Friday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m., the First Presbyterian Church of Yorktown at 2880 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights will offer its 'Longest Night Service.' Sometimes known as “Blue Christmas,” the candle-lit worship service offers "hope, support, prayer and quiet reflection to those for whom the advent season may also brings sadness, loss, and worry." Winter Solstice Celebration in Somers

The Somers Library is holding a Winter Solstice Celebration on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. Children can learn facts about the Sun, make an orange pomander, decorate (and eat!) a cupcake. For all ages with parent or caregiver. Please register in advance.

Holiday Model Train Show


The holiday model train show at at Lasdon Park in Somers will be featured during the 'Holiday on the Hill' event which will run on Dec. 21 and Dec. 22 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

The fun-packed holiday show will feature trains running on more than 150 feet of track on a giant eight-foot by 22-foot multi-level layout. There will be dozens of tiny buildings and structures in a display that combines fantasy and real train themes, including the Polar Express chugging along to Santa’s Village at the North Pole and highlights of the Metro-North Railroad line from Manhattan to Katonah. Read more about it here.
