Don't Miss: Service for Nero; Holiday Craft Fair; Meet Santa

Other weekend events include a Veterans Town Hall forum, 'Done to the Dogs' event at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, a bake sale and a holiday concert in Somers.

There are tons of ways to keep busy around Yorktown and Somers this weekend.  Here are the details for several great events.

'Blues' Comes to Somers

Blues Corruption will be performing at the Burger Barn, 289 Route 100, Somers, on Friday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. Stop by for great food, great music and a great time. For more details visit www.bluescorruption.com

Eliseo Family's Blessing of the Animals and Memorial Service

The Eliseo family has gotten a new puppy. They will bless their new pet and hold a prayer service for their hero dog Nero and three other dogs – Bandit, 1-year-old Husky; Roxie, an 8-year-old English bulldog; and Buddy, a 4-year-old Chihuahua-Dachshund mix – who perished in their Nov. 24 house fire. 

The service will be held at Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Shrub Oak on Saturday, Dec. 14 at noon. Everyone is invited to come by 11:45 a.m. The Eliseo family hopes to see the followers, volunteers, friends and family at the service and thank each person for their help and condolences during their time of loss.

Veterans Town Hall Forum

The Veterans Service Agencies of Westchester County and Putnam County will hold a Veterans Town Hall Forum to provide information on benefits for veterans of both counties at Yorktown American Legion Post #1009 on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. The Yorktown American Legion Post #1009 is located at 235 Veterans Road in Yorktown.

Local Artisan Holiday Craft Fair

The annual holiday fair on Saturday, Dec. 14 at Hilltop Hanover Farm in Yorktown supports local artisans who sell their crafts, which in turn supports Something Good in the World's educational programs and projects at Hilltop Hanover Farm and Environmental Center, located at 1271 Hanover Street.

There will be a bake sale, face-painting, craft activities for children, music, a children's raffle, and plenty of time to shop, eat, talk, and enjoy the beauty of the Farm. Some of the original art and crafts include: handmade bowls from local hardwoods, jewelry, toys, clothing, ornaments, greeting cards, books, embroidery, basketry, weaving, knitting, and more.

Yorktown Lions and American Legion Breakfast with Santa

Enjoy a breakfast or brunch with Santa, Mrs. Claus and Frosty on Sunday, Dec. 15 at the Yorktown American Legion, 235 Veterans Road, Yorktown Heights, and take a picture with Santa. Seatings are 8-9:30 a.m., 10-11:30 a.m., or 12-1:30 p.m.. All guests must have a reservation and all children must attend with a parent or other adult.

The cost is $7 for children 2-12; $10 for children ages 13 and above. Children who are 1 and under go in for free. Call Maria Marks at 914-407-4162 or email yorktownlionsclub@gmail.com.

Fire Department Candy Cane Runs

The Yorktown, Lake Mohegan and Somers fire department will hold their annual Candy Cane Runs this weekend. Santa will be making his way around town to hand out candy canes and spread some good old holiday cheer.

Gone to the Dogs in Yorktown

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park in Yorktown. It will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the park's parking lot 1. Dress up your furry friend in holiday attire. The entry fee is $5 per dog. There will be prizes for the best dressed. Click here for more details. 

Bake Sale at Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool

The Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool's bake sale will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 8:30 a.m. Come early for the best selection. Most items can be frozen for future gift giving. The Yorktown Presbyterian Preschool is located at 2880 Crompond Road in Yorktown Heights.

Holiday Concert & Sing-Along with the Joey D. Jazz Ensemble

The concert, sponsored by the Friends of the Somers Library, will be held on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. Join this fun-filled, festive holiday concert and sing-along with the Joey D. Jazz Ensemble. The group has been featured at Le Fontane Ristorante, and has delighted audiences of all ages.

This local group formed when music educators from Bedford and Somers put their talents together to bring the area a fresh new sound. Joey DiGraza is a former Fox Lane music and theatre director. John Fiscella is one of the most versatile guitarists in the New York area. Steve Chetcuti is currently music director at Somers Middle School, where he has created an award-winning program for students. More details here.
