6 Events Not to Miss in Yorktown, Somers this Weekend

Those events include a Yorktown public Menorah lighting, Turkey Bowl tournament to benefit Yorktown food pantry, meeting alpacas in Yorktown, a Turkey Mountain hike, Shrek the Musical

There are tons of ways to keep busy around Yorktown and Somers this weekend.  Here are the details for several great events. 

Annual Turkey Mountain Hike

Walk off your Thanksgiving feast with the annual trek up to the top of Turkey Mountain in Yorktown and enjoy great views of the Hudson Valley. Meet on Friday, Nov. 29 at 9 a.m. at Locke Lane at the Turkey Mountain parking area off Route 118. No pre-registration is needed. Wear sturdy footwear and layers since the walk up can be challenging and the wind on top can be brisk. 

Shrek the Musical

Yorktown Stage presents "Shrek The Musical" on Friday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are still available. The cost for adults is $26; seniors (63+) and students (12-22) $21; children (under 12) $19. Yorktown Stage is located at 1974 Commerce Street. Support Yorktown Community Help Food Pantry

The Yorkville Sports Association is sponsoring the Turkey Bowl Recreational Coed Flag Football Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 30 to collect food for the Yorktown Community Help food pantry. Even if you're not able to play in the Turkey Bowl you can still help. Faraway Farm Open House

Faraway Farm in Yorktown is holding an Open House on Saturday, Nov. 30 and Sunday, Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when you can meet the alpacas and horses and shop at the farm store. The farm is home to Yorktown's Leda Blumberg and her husband Steve Cole who have been raising a herd of beautiful alpacas since 2008.

Yorktown Public Menorah Lighting

The Chabad of Yorktown is hosting a Menorah lighting ceremony at the Jack DeVito gazebo at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1. Residents can enjoy Fire Juggling Show, traditional latkas, doughnuts, chocolate gelt and dreidels. Free light-up Menorah necklaces will be given to all participants. The lighting ceremony will be followed by music and singing.

Somers Man Exhibits Paintings at Library

Stephen Sepe, a 35-year Somers resident who recently retired from Scarsdale High School, will be exhibiting a collection of paintings at the Somers Library during the month of December. His works have been selected for a number of juried exhibits and he is an active member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.
