Somers Pumpkin Smash; $14.5 Million Lakeland Schools Bond; Yorktown Love in Action

Pumpkin Smashing

Halloween is over, so what do you do with your pumpkins? Summer Trails Camo in Somers will have a mashing, smashing, pounding, flinging and launching of pumpkins on Monday, Nov. 4 from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bring your pumpkins and join then for an afternoon of pumpkin launching and smashing, games and refreshments. Yorktown Love in Action's New Store

Yorktown Love in Action, a non-profit organization that helps local residents, is opening it second store "Hidden Treasures and Donation Center." Clean out your closets for a cause. Drop your slightly used items off and at the same time stay and shop for new ones. Located at: 3144 East Main Street (RT 6)Mohegan Lake NY 10547 or 3565 Crompond Road (RT202) Cortlandt Manor NY 10567. It's grand opening is on Monday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m.

Yorktown High School Key Club Blood Drive

It will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Yorktown High School Gymnasium. Students must be 16 years old and have a signed parental permission slip and ID in order to donate. Permission slips are available in the cafeteria and main office; appointments can be scheduled via Ms. Profita or Ms. Murdock. All who donate will be entered into a sweepstakes for two tickets to Superbowl XLVIII in New Jersey.

Planning Board Meeting

Open House at St. Patrick's School

Conservation Board Meeting

Members of the Yorktown Conservation Board will meet on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall Board Room, 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown Heights. More details here.

Yorktown School District-Wide Parent Meeting

It will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Yorktown High School Auditorium. Yorktown Central School District Administrators Dr. Ralph Napolitano and Dr. Florence T. O'Connor will address the audience on several issues involving Race to the Top (RTTT), Annual Professional performance Review (APPR), Common Core Standards and Curricula, New York State Assessments, Data Marketing and Parent Advocacy. This session is intended for all K-12 parents of students in the Yorktown schools and will focus on clarification of information surrounding these issues.

$14.5 Million Safety, Security and Health Bond

The Lakeland Board of Education will hold a work session on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lakeland Administration Building, 1086 East Main Street, Shrub Oak. The meeting is open to the public. Although there is no opportunity for public comment at work sessions, there are two opportunities for public comment at the Board's regular monthly meeting.

On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Lakeland Central School District community will be asked to consider an approximate $14.5 million Safety, Security and Health Bond proposition that would include the addition of a wide range of safety and security items throughout the district’s schools. The community can ask questions and learn more about the bond at the board meeting on Nov. 7
