Yorktown Teen Center Dedicates Harrison Apar Computer and Technology Center

The Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation underwrote the cost of a computer center at the Yorktown Teen Center, which was named the Harrison Apar Computer and Technology Center earlier this week.

The  has a new comouter technology center, which was named the Harrison Apar Computer and Technology Center earlier this week.

Bruce and Elise Apar, founders of the charity The Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation, lifted the banner on Wednesday that covered the commemorative plaque with their late son’s name.

Harrison Apar, was a student who had a rare form of dwarfism and died of complications in 2003 at age 15.

The Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation underwrote the cost of the technology center providing teens with the latest in technology. The computer center includes four computer stations, laser printer, video equipment and other peripherals.  

"The Apar's have been supportive of the Teen Center from the beginning," said Helena Rodriguez, the center's board of directors president. "As we grow as a community organization, their help with establishing our foundations will not be forgotten."

She said Bruce Apar was one of the first people who got involved with the Teen Center and she really appreciates what he has done. And what makes the dedication even more special, Rodrigez said, is that her son knew Harrison.

"I met Harrison a long time ago," she said. "It's special to me because I feel his spirit is there."

Upon Harrison's passing, two seventh graders successfully petitioned the town of Yorktown to rename a local ballpark Harrison Apar Field of Dreams. The Foundation and its fund were founded April 2003 in cooperation with Yorktown Athletic Club and the Yorktown Police Benevolent Association.

The Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation's mission is to improve town and school recreational facilities, reward outstanding accomplishments in academics, athletics and performing arts, and instill in young people the virtues of character, confidence and teamwork.
