Yorktown Leos Club Receives 2013 Service Award

The Yorktown Leos Club, a youth community service club sponsored by the Yorktown Lions Club, is known for its good deeds around town. Recently the club was honored with the Voluntary Service Award during the 56th annual Westchester Recreation and Parks Society (WRAPS) awards.

Yorktown Leos club members range in age from 12 to 25 and come from three local high schools and two middle schools with a total of 110 members, making them the largest community service organization in Yorktown.

The Leos average more than 25 service projects annually, which included the recent transformation of the Patriot Garden. They transformed the vicinity into a beautiful park by cleaning up the area, spreading mulch and planting shrubs and flowers.

In the past, they've raised and donated $20,000 to local charities and organizations.
