Yorktown Leo Club Members Recognized for Their Community Service

The group of about 50 young people do community service in town. Accepting the award were the president and vice president of the Leo Club.

Members of the Yorkotwn Leo Club, a youth volunteer organization in town, were recognized for their contributions to the Yorktown community by town board members on Tuesday.

Past and present members helped plant flowers at the Patriots Garden in 2010 and will be helping this year again, councilman Vishnu Patel said. Approximately two dozens Leo members participated and donated hundreds of hours of their time to take care of the garden last year. 

Accepting the award were Ali Fein, president of the Yorktown Leo Club and Jackie Bucci, vice president. Al  Avitabile is the youth mentor to the Leos (Leo stands for Leadership Experience Opportunity).

Boy eagle scout Steven Moy, a senior at Yorktown High School, was also recognized during the town board's Tuesday meeting. He briefly spoke about his project of beautifying the Yorktown High School courtyard by planting new patches, removing mulch, putting benches, and doing general trimming. 

Recently, the town's planning department received an award from Westchester County for their design of the Patriots Garden.
