Through her non-profit organization Yorktown Love in Action, Yorktown resident has opened up a thrift/wig store at the Parkside Corner plaza in Yorktown to help local residents and families.
The organization provides families with clothes, furniture, and other basic services. It was founded in April 2011 to help .
The store features various items: clothing, shoes, baby items, toys, household goods and appliances, which have been donated with the purpose that the items are sold and proceeds are used to help pay the medical, utility and insurance bills of people in need. Simone-Sofo hopes to be able to even pay their mortgages one day.

Simone-Sofo said she needs the community's help to support the cause by shopping at the store and/or making donations.
Local businesses have also been involved with her cause. in Jefferson Valley will donate 2 percent of their customer's grocery bill to Yorktown Love in Action. A yoga donation class is held every Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the in Peekskill.
Yorktown Love in Action will be having its Valentine Fundraiser today, Feb. 7 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Little Sorrento restaurant, located at 3565 Crompond Road, Cortlandt Manor. They will also have a fundraiser on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at Piazza Roma in Mohegan Lake from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The store "Yorktown Love in Action" is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and it's closed Sundays and Mondays.
