Mohegan Lake FD Volunteer Kristina McCarthy Honored with President's Volunteer Service Award

The Cortlandt EMT received this prestigious award for her dedication to the community.

The White House issued Cortlandt Manor EMT, Kristina McCarthy, with a President's Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service last month.

McCarthy volunteers with the Mohegan and Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps and is also a member of the Mohegan Fire Deptartment fire police unit.

The President's Volunteer Service Award honors individuals who have achieved a certain standard measured by the number of hours served over the course of a 12-month period, and to those who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and who have demonstrated exemplary citizenship.

“McCarthy is an individual who exemplifies outstanding dedication and service to the local Cortlandt and Yorktown area emergency medical services system, and has demonstrated a commitment to a comprehensive, integrated system of emergency medical services throughout Westchester county.”

"These recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Awards are role models for all Americans," President Barack Obama said. "Each volunteer hour contributed makes a difference in improving the quality of life for others, and I encourage everyone to contribute to our community by volunteering. Volunteers bring us closer together as families, as communities and as a Nation, through their commitment."

President George W. Bush established this honor in 2003.

The AWARD is issued by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by President Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our Nation.
