Girl Scouts Give ‘Halloween Baby’ A Special Gift

Cortlandt’s Lincoln Titus School troop honor Girl Scout founder Juliette Gordon Low’s birthday with the annual Halloween donation.

The Nor'Easter couldn't stop all Halloween celebrations last week.

You've heard of the first New Year's Baby. Meet the first Halloween Baby. Well, almost.

For the past three years, West Lakeland Girl Scout Troop 2478 has given a special gift to the first baby born on Halloween at Hudson Valley Hospital Center. The date is significant for Girl Scouts because founder Juliette Gordon Low was born Oct. 31, 1860.

This year, however, HVHC’s Halloween baby came a few hours late. Megan Marie Lex was born at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1. Megan’s mom, Elizabeth Rodrick Lex of Mahopac, said she was out trick-or-treating with her 2-year-old daughter when she went into labor and decided it was time to get to Hudson Valley Hospital Center.

On Tuesday evening, Troop 2478 from Lincoln Titus School in Cortlandt presented Rodrick Lex and her husband, Kenneth, with a special basket of goodies including a tiny Girl Scout uniform.

The girls didn’t mind that 8 lbs 1 oz Megan didn’t make it on time, said troop leader Donna Reilly. “Just as long as she grows up to be a Girl Scout,’’ she said.

Rodrick Lex, a former Girl Scout, said it was a sure thing.
