Dispose of Textile Items During First "Clothing Recycling Day" in Town

Dispose of your textile goods, such as apparel, footwear, bags, belts, blankets, linen, drapery, comforters and soft toys. The first, town-wide "Clothing Recycling Day" will be held on Saturday, April 28.

, the non-for-profit organization dedicated to helping families in need, will be sponsoring the first, town-wide "Clothing Recycling Day" Fundraiser, of all textile goods. 

It will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

All textile goods – slightly used – will be accepted, including apparel, footwear, bags, linen, blankets, belts, drapery, soft toys, comforters and accessories. They should be placed in heavy duty black plastic bags. 

"These items usually end up getting thrown away in the garbage, filling up precious landfills," Donna Simone-Sofo, founder of Yorktown Love in Action (YLIA) said. "We will now be able to utilize and recycle all textile goods, benefiting everyone in the community."

All donations are tax deductable, Simone-Sofo said, and added that the money raised from the sale of these items at the will go toward helping community members in need.

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
