September Events at Hilltop Hanover Farm of Yorktown

Labor Day has now passed and students are back to school and most vacations have now concluded. September usually signals a lull in the action but not at Yorktown’s .

An array of activities continues to be available. Join the “Couples Cooking” on Friday evenings on Oct. 19 and Nov. 9 from 7 to 9 p.m.. The cost is $40 per couple. For the younger generation the Farm is offering “Tween Cuisine Cooking Classes” for children 12-15. Learn about good cooking techniques and healthy eating habits with chef and nutrition educator Mary Opfer. The cost for this 3-session series (Thursdays, Sept. 13, 20, and 27 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) is $45. The class is limited to 15 so register online now.

Another intriguing event for adults is “Consciouswine” on Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.Hilltop Hanover Farm will host an incredible wine and food experience. The “Farm 2 Table Wine Dinner” features three wines from Oregon’s Youngberg Hill Vineyard paired with Hilltop Hanover Farm produce prepared by Lesley Sutter, Flying Pig chef. 

Another interesting program is the “Certificate in Sustainable Vegetable Production,” offered through Westchester Community College at Hilltop Hanover Farm. Hilltop Hanover Farm continues to participate in the Yorktown Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from 9 to 2 through Oct. 27. Enter by way of Veterans’ Road (opposite the track). Just follow the signs. First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
