"Luv" is in the air at The Schoolhouse!

Luv is a brainy and wildly funny Tony Award-winning play written by Murray Schisgal, co-author of the screenplay for "Tootsie," that will run at The Schoolhouse Theater from May 29 through June 22, directed by Schoolhouse Artistic Director, Pamela Moller Kareman.

When Harry Berlin attempts to jump off a NYC bridge, he is stopped by Milt Manville, an old college buddy whom he barely remembers. Milt, a successful broker on Wall Street (and sometimes bric-a-brac dealer) listens to Harry's sad tale and comes up with the perfect solution to both their woes, for as it turns out things are not so terrific for Milt either. He wants to marry his new love, Linda, but his neurotic wife Ellen won't give him a divorce. Luv pokes serious fun at the 60's avant garde and gives hilarious new meaning to the old joke, "Take my wife, please, won't somebody take my wife?"

A native New Yorker, Murray Schisgal earned Tony nominations for Best Play and Best Author when Luv prem iered in 1964 with Anne Jackson, Eli Wallach and Alan Arkin, directed by Mike Nichols, who won the Tony Award that year for Best Director. The late writer and theater critic, Walter Kerr, called that production of Luv "an extraordinarily funny evening at the theater," in his review that appeared in the New York Sunday Herald Tribune, in November, 1964.

Neal Mayer (Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Twelfth Night), will play the role of the misfit, Harry Berlin. Neal recently returned to New York after performing across the U.S. with the national tour of Priscilla Queen of The Desert. His New York credits include the Broadway company of Les Miserables and such Off-Broadway shows as Forbidden Broadway, Bush Is Bad (CD), Plaisir D'amour, and Walmartopia
.
Steve Perlmutter (Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Dinner With Friends, The Show-Off, The Sisters Rosensweig, Lost in Yonkers), will play the role of Milt Manville, Ha rry's materialistic college friend. An acting instructor as well as an actor, Steve has performed at regional theatres throughout the country, including Philadelphia's famed Walnut Street Theatre. He currently teaches at The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, Rutgers University and NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Quinn Cassavale (Days of Wine and Roses, Dancing at Lughnasa, The Imaginary Invalid, Crimes of the Heart, Lobby Hero, and Abundance) who also happens to be the General Manager at The Schoolhouse, will play the role of Ellen, the neurotic wife of Milt. Spoiler alert: Steve Perlmutter and Quinn Cassavale are husband and wife in real life! In addition to her many Schoolhouse credits, Quinn has performed at The Bickford Theatre in New Jersey and HERE Arts Center in New York City.

In reference to the fact that Luv takes place on a bridge, The Schoolhouse Gallery is presenting a photo exhibit entitled Bridge: Verb or Noun? which will be in place during the run of the play. An artists' reception, to which the public is invited, is planned for Saturday, May 31, 3 to 5 pm.
