Town to revise special election law for filling vacancies

After unanimously rejecting the first draft of a special elections law, the board voted 3-1 to have the attorney prepare a revised draft. The board also split 2-2, for a second time, on appointing Rich Campanaro to fill board vacancy.

1. Town parks
In separate discussions, comments were made about the need to repair tennis courts, cleaning up the town’s parks, and future plans for Downing Park, Sylvan Glen,  Granite Knolls, Holland Sporting Club and Shallow Creek.
 
2. Public hearing on local law dealing with filling vacancies in elected offices
After attention was brought to several problems with the proposed law, the board voted 0-4 not to adopt the law, and then, in a 3-1 vote with Supervisor Grace voting no, to have the town attorney draft a revised law.  For the second time, the board failed to get the three votes necessary to appoint Rich Campanaro to the board; this time the vote was two in favor and two opposed.
 
3. Water main break/Stoney Street
The board approved a resolution for the emergency repair of the water main on Stoney Street at the Bear Mountain Parkway. The work will be done by the contractor doing the work on Route 202 and the town will pay for it through an arrangement with the state DOT.
 
4. YCCC generator
The board approved, in a 3-0-1 vote with Supervisor Grace recusing himself, to award an $8,000 contract to Dan Ciarcia to do the design specs for the installation.
 
5. Costco
The board authorized Jacobs Engineering, the town’s traffic consultant, to evaluate Costco’s traffic analysis in its Environmental Impact Statement.
