Controversy continues over filling Town Board vacancy

Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce urged the Town Board to fill the vacancy by appointment and the Democratic Town Committee urged letting the people fill the vacancy in November.

1. Jefferson Valley Mall
After signage issues were resolved, the board signed the site plan for the renovations to the Mall.
 
2. Underhill Plaza Directory Sign
The board reviewed a plan for a store directory sign that will be on town property.
 
3. Town Board Vacancy
Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce urged the board to appoint someone to fill the vacancy and a spokesperson for the Democratic Town Committee urged the board to let the people decide at a special election in November.  The board scheduled a public hearing on April 15 for a proposed local law that would call for special elections (earlier than November) to fill vacancies in the event the board couldn’t agree on an appointment within 30 days.
 
4.In-Rem properties/auction
The board will auction off several properties, but the details of who will conduct the auction remain to be decided.
 
5. Building Department fees
The board adopted a permit fee for erecting temporary party tents.

6. State grant
The board authorized the supervisor to sign an Agreement with the state so that the town could receive a long awaited $150,000 grant to be used to renovate the Route 202 ballfields and the inline skating rink at Shrub Oak Park.
