Town Board adopts 2013 Preliminary Budget

Town Board adopts 2013 Preliminary Budget with 4.18% tax rate increase but the total tax bill for some will be lower than 2012 because of reductions in the separate water and refuse taxes.

2013 Preliminary Budget
Convening in a work session mode at 5pm, the Board continued its review of the Supervisor’s Tentative Budget and after about two hours of discussion, it voted to agree to a series of changes in the budget, including salary increases for staff and elected officials, and then proceeded to adopt a Preliminary Budget that will be the subject of a public hearing on December 5. The salary increases and a list of the changes are included in the CIY meeting summary,
 
The budget increases the ADL tax rate increase (which Councilman Bianco says is shown on tax bills as the “Yorktown Town Tax”) is 4.18%. For the typical homeowner with a $10,000 assessed value, their total town tax bill will decrease by $62.94, or minus 2.56%, if they have water and sewer;  if they don’t have water and sewer, their bill will decrease by $1.05, or minus .6%
 
Remainder of meeting
Devoted mostly to giving out Certificates of Merit for services rendered after Hurricane Sandy and a presentation by FEMA and the SBA on available assistance.
 
The meeting summary also highlights several of the resolutions that were approved, including awarding a new bid for electric services and the submission of a Brownfields grant application to the EPA for the redevelopment of the highway garage site.
