Participation is growing for the Support-A-Walk!

There are MANY ways to participate in the Support-A-Walk, even if you can't attend!

Plans are well underway for Support Connection’s 19th Annual Support-A-Walk, scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6th at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights.

The Support-A-Walk was founded nineteen years ago by local residents to bring attention to the needs of people affected by breast and ovarian cancer. People travel from across the Hudson Valley and beyond to take part in this inspiring and uplifting community event. In 2012, more than 9,000 people attended.

People of all ages complete a 3-mile walk, often in honor of loved ones – a celebration of life and a tribute to those who are affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome to participate.

The Support-A-Walk is Support Connection’s most important fundraiser each year, with  89¢ of every dollar raised going directly to fund their free breast and ovarian cancer support services. Support Connection does not receive funds from any national cancer organizations including Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen, the Avon Walk or Making Strides. The year-round support services Support Connection provides have helped thousands of people since the organization was founded in 1996.

There are many ways to become involved, even for those who cannot attend. Supporters near and far can raise funds by creating personal web pages at www.firstgiving.com/supportconnection/walk2013. Fundraising pages make it simple to ask friends and family for donations. It’s even possible to form an online “team” by enlisting others to create their own fundraising pages.

Direct donations can be made to the Walk, either online or by check or cash. Tribute Signs, displayed along the Walk path with messages of support, celebration or commemoration, are available for $50 each. Corporate sponsorships are still available at different levels of giving, enabling businesses to show support for their community while gaining wide public exposure. For Sponsor info, call 914-962-6402 or email info@supportconnection.org.
