Yorktown's Girls Summer Travel Softball Team Wins League Championship

Thanks to 12u Yorktown Huskers Head Coach Lou Salveggi for sharing the news and pictures with Patch:

The 12u Yorktown Huskers town travel softball team completed its summer travel season on Wednesday, July 31 as the WPBA 12u North Summer travel softball league champions. The team had a record of 15 wins and 1 loss.

Its pitching staff, led by Erica Salveggi, Liz Lucey, Amanda Rolle and Christina Ruvo was a dominant force to deal with, according to coach Salveggi. The team's catchers Erin Gray, Grace Meara and Julianna Piehler were tough to steal on and all called a good game.

The line up was solid from top to bottom with offensive leaders Erin Gray, Grace Meara, Juliana Piehler, Samantha Baccari and Erica Salveggi. Outfielders Izzy Cicinelli, Allie Haims, and first timers Angie Morris and Julianne Strauss had solid
performances in the line up and their defense was spectacular all season long for the Huskers. Liz Sirett got injured early in the season but she was always there to cheer for her teammate and give them support when they needed it the most.

“I told my team before the season began that good things were going to
happen this summer," Salveggi said. "This season’s goal started in January. We worked really hard all winter long right into the summer to take first place
amongst our other town opponents (Brewster A and B, East Fishkill, Mahopac, Somers, Croton and Shrub Oak.)

He said his team never quit on each other and played each and every game with
a lot of heart and passion.

"This has been my fourth season coaching summer travel softball and by far the best," Salveggi said.

The team's assistant coaches are Rich Gray, Rich Baccari and Carl Piehler.

"We all worked well together and knew what each player could bring to the table
to help us win this," Salveggi said. "Each of our girls was a huge help to our success on and off the field. We have become a very competitive town travel team through all of our hard work, but also had a lot of fun out there as well.

Salveggi said the girls were always smiling and cheering, while team parents were there to help with any of the behind the scenes business.

"I am really happy for our team," Salveggi said. "This is a well deserving Championship for them because of the way they have played all year long."
