Yorktown's Cheryl Reynolds Named Coach of the Year

Cheryl Reynolds first began volunteering on Wednesday Night Soccer as a way to spend more time with her sons Malachy and Braden, now ages 10 and 8, who are still members of the Yorktown Youth Soccer Club.

But over the last five years that Reynolds has been coaching for the Yorktown Youth Hurricanes in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade division, everything has turned into so much more than spending time with her boys. She has built valuable relationships

"What I value most about coaching are the relationships," Reynolds told Patch. "The success of our team is in the relationships we build and the relationships we build contribute to the success of our team."

Now, Reynolds has been named Boys Recreation Coach of the Year by the East Hudson Youth Soccer League (EHYSL) and Eastern New York.

Reynolds's husband John said everyone comments on how well organized her team is because of her.

"She has a great understanding of the boys and what makes them tick," her said. "Her enthusiasm is contagious and she makes all the boys feel special. She gets the most out of her team every week."

In addition to coaching, Reynolds ran the concession stand at the Yorktown Youth Soccer Club’s annual intramural tournament. She is also past PTA President at Mildred E. Strang Middle School and is actively involved with the Yorktown High School PTSA.

"She makes it to the field for every practice and game," her husband said. "She is truly amazing!"
