Yorktown 10u Girls Travel Softball Team Completes Undefeated Season

Thanks to Matt Albano for sharing the news and pictures with Patch:

The Yorktown 10u Girls Travel Softball team defeated Somers on Friday, July 26 to complete an undefeated season in the WPBA summer travel league. The journey for this team began in January as the girls gathered to train together with their sights set on the 10u crown.

The coaches knew early on that this team would be special. More than half of the roster was returning from the prior year when the team went a respectable 7-6 leading to a 3rd place finish.

Going into 2013, the team returned a solid offensive core. The unanswered question was whether or not this team had enough pitching depth to be successful. That concern was extinguished early on when the team threw a combined no-hitter in their first game of the season. From that point forward, the girls powered their way through opponents using a combination of outstanding pitching, timely hitting and exceptional defense.

The season was a true team effort, with offensive and defensive contributions coming from the entire roster.

The Huskers roster included the following: Alyssa Albano (Pitcher, SS, OF), Samantha Armstrong (1B, OF, Pitcher), Kaitlyn Bennett (3B, 1B, OF), Alyssa Buck (Pitcher, OF), Allie Cortino (Pitcher, OF), Olivia Fasce (OF, SS, Pitcher), Arianna Foto (3B, OF), Bria Moran (Catcher, SS, OF), Bridget Morris (Pitcher, OF), Elaina Ornstein (2B, OF), Isabella Raffa (OF, 2B), Hailey Soliz (2B, OF), Isabella Vano (Catcher, 1B, OF).

Tommy Vano was the head coach of the winning Huskers and he was assisted by Matt Albano, Sean Moran, Craig Armstrong and Rob Cortino.
