Congratulations to Elks Hoop Shoot Competitors

Kudos to all the kids who entered the Yorktown Elks-sponsored Hoop Shoot and in particular Kristen Cinquina, who won the New York State title earlier this month in the 10-11 year old category.

The Elks hosted the local free throw contest in January as part of the Elks National Hoop Shoot competition where boy and girls ages 8-13 compete first at the school level.  The winners of each age group for boys and girls then moved on to a local competition at Yorktown High School. The winners of that moved on to the regional competition at Arlington High School in Lagrangeville.

Several local competitors from the area won the regional contest and moved on to the district level which was again hosted at Arlington High School.  Three of the original six winners from the Yorktown area won the district competition in their age and gender groups—Kristen Cinquina (10-11 girls group), Emily Girolamo (11-12 girls group), and Regan Fallo (11-12 boys group)—and competed in Syracuse for the New York State title on March 1.

For winning the state title Kristen will now move onto the Regional Hoop Shoot in Wilkes Barre, PA on March 22, to shoot against the State Champions from New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

If successful there she will then shoot for the National Championship in Springfield, MA on April 12 against winners from all other States (72 shooters). They will be competing for National Honors and the right to have their names inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (www.nyelks.org).
