Yorktown Volleyball Falls at Regionals

The Huskers fought back to force a fifth deciding set against Cornwall at Arlington High School Saturday.

After defeating John Jay Cross River to earn the Section I Class A title last week, the Yorktown Huskers took on an undefeated Cornwall squad at regionals today.

Cornwall, 18-0, holds the title of Section 9 champions.

Yorktown had a powerful start to the match, held at Arlington High School Saturday, with a 5-0 start that forced an early timeout for the Dragons.

The first set was a back-and-forth battle that eventually ended with Cornwall on top, 27-25.

The Huskers struggled in the second set, allowing Cornwall a strong lead and a final score of 25-16.

The third and fourth sets put a strong Huskers team on display, ending 25-20 and 25-13 respectively, forcing a fifth deciding set between the two teams.

A big lead from the start of the fifth for Cornwall forced Yorktown to call a timeout when the Huskers were down 3-9 and again at the 5-14 mark.

Ultimately, Cornwall defeated Yorktown, 25-17 to earn the regional title and a trip to states.
