You open your eyes up and feel the L.A. breeze

The thought of stardom makes you free-ze

Because I wanna be a superstar

My face everywhere on cereal boxes

With these lyrics begins the pop song “Superstar” by songwriter and singer Joey Bisaccia, a recent graduate of the Mildred E. Strang Middle School, and incoming freshamn.

“Superstar” aired for the first time on 100.7 WHUD in July, and Bisaccia was the youngest guest to be featured on the radio station’s "Hudson Valley Artist Spotlight" segment of the 'Night Rhythms' program.

"When I saw Joey perform his song in the video, I was completely blown away and contacted him to be a guest on 'HVAS',” said Kathy Millar, the host and producer of 'Night Rhythms' and 'HVAS.' "He's a very talented singer and writer with a winning personality and a great deal of poise that belies his 13 years.”

Bisaccia, who received no formal musical training, wrote the song about a year ago and was encouraged by his musician uncle, Bobby Rasero, to record it in a studio.

Working with Rasero and the audio engineer Matt Noble of The Loft Recording Studios in Bronxville, Bisaccia sang his own background vocals. He also created the song’s beat, pitch, and instrumental sounds using computer software instruments and a synthesizer. In January, the final mix resulted in “Superstar,” produced by Rasero.

Using his computer, Bisaccia videotaped himself performing “Superstar” in April, then posted the video on YouTube, receiving more than 5,000 views so far. According to Millar, the video link was submitted by Joe and Evelyn Bisaccia (Joey’s parents and music enthusiasts) to WHUD for feedbacks. Mike Bennett of "Mike & Kasey In the Morning" program reviewed it favorably and forwarded it to Millar.

Bisaccia started writing music as a 7-year old. His first recorded song was composed when he was in the fifth grade for a school play about Martin Luther King, Jr. “Why Us” is a rhythm and blues piece about King’s struggles in his efforts to end segregation.

To date, Bisaccia has written nine songs, mostly pop with a few pieces influenced by rap. He said he hopes to return to the studio soon to record a love song that he recently composed.

“Sometimes I am inspired by something I see or something someone says to me,” said Bisaccia about his composition process. “But sometimes I just want to write a song, so I start writing and ideas just pop into my mind."

Bisaccia relishes working daily on his new composition or reviewing old ones. He also devotes time to singing songs on the radio or his own. Relating "Superstar" and Bisaccia, Millar said, “It would not surprise me if it’s prophetic in nature.”

Another recent milestone for Bisaccia was his foray into musical, performing as the main protagonist Troy Bolton in the MESMS production of High School Musical in April.

Listen to the chorus and a section of a stanza of “Superstar” that echoes Bisaccia’s ambition of singing professionally.
