Yorktown Schools Look to School Events Ahead

Friday, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28 are early dismissal days for the students in the district due to staff development. For more school events throughout the year, check out the school calendar.

The school year at Yorktown schools is at full speed.

In a letter, posted on the school's website, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Florence O'Connor addressed parents and guardians and said school officials were excited to bring their schools "back to life with the return of our students."

Parents should have received a copy of the 2012-2013 school calendar at home. The most current calendar is available online via eChalk, and can be found under "Upcoming Events" in the right column of every school homepage, O'Connor wrote. In addition, copies are available from each school office, and at the District Administration Office.

"Please check it regularly as changes take place throughout the year," O'Connor wrote. "You can also subscribe to the calendar in iCal format; a tutorial video is available online."

Friday, Sept. 21 and Sept. 28 are early dismissal days for the students in the district due to staff development. These half days will serve as professional development days in order to meet the requirements of the New York State Education Department.

"Our professional development focus will be the integration of the Common Core State Learning Standards (CCSS) and training in meeting the mandated Annual Professional Performance Review (APPR) for teachers and principals," O'Connor said.
