Yorktown School District Complies with Tax Cap, Passes State Audit

State comptroller is "completely satisfied" the Yorktown Central School District has complied with all aspects of the tax cap legislation.

The following news is via the : The New York State Comptroller’s Office recently concluded an audit of the tax cap calculation for the Yorktown Central School District.

Assistant Superintendent Tom Cole provided the state auditors with all of the variables included in the calculation, along with two years of line-by-line budgets, state aid projections and Employee Retirement System (ERS) salary estimates.

"We are pleased to say that we passed with flying colors," Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ralph Napolitano said.

Without long-term substantive solutions to state and federal mandates, tax certiorari payouts, declining state aid, depletion of cash reserves and the tax cap, districts will be forced to rethink the services they can afford to offer to their students.

"The state comptroller is completely satisfied that the Yorktown Central School District has fully complied with all aspects of the tax cap legislation," Board of Education President Jackie Carbone said.

School administrators continue to ask community members to write to their legislators for mandate relief at www.assembly.state.ny.us and www.nysenate.gov. Challenging economic times require everyone to work together to continue Yorktown’s high quality public education. Mr. Cole stated,

"As a school district, we strive to be good stewards of taxpayer funds, and that includes planning for the future," Cole said. "Community advocacy may provide additional opportunities for the district’s students."

The district serves approximately 3,600 pupils in six schools: Brookside and Mohansic Elementary Schools, Crompond Intermediate School, Mildred E. Strang Middle School and the Yorktown High and Alternative High Schools.
