Yorktown High School to Celebrate Grand Opening of Press Box, Reopening of Track

The grand opening ceremony will take place on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 a.m.

Yorktown Central School District officials will celebrate the grand opening of the new press box and renovated track at Yorktown High School this Saturday, Dec. 1 at 8:30 a.m.

The grand opening ceremony will take place just before the Big Chill Track and Field event which begins at 9 a.m. 

Yorktown School Board President Jackie Carbone said in a statement she wants to thank the community for their support of the district-wide infrastructure improvements and all those involved in the donation of the press box, especially Rich Giannasca, the Yorktown Athletic Club and the Huskers.

"We look forward to having our athletes and their competitors use the new track," she said in the statement. "We are delighted to have a press box available for our athletic program to help capture exciting sports highlights and to enhance coaching using videos. This new press box allows both coaches and game day personnel the opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility."

Members of the Board of Education, administration, press box donor and builder Rich Giannasca of Hull Construction and Restoration, Yorktown Huskers Sport Club, Yorktown Athletic Club, KSQ Architects, and construction managers Arris Contracting will be present during the grand opening ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

The track renovation was managed through the 2006 bond. The press box is a donation from Hull Construction, with the support of the Yorktown Athletic Club, Yorktown Huskers Sports Club, Arris Contracting and KSQ Architects.

The reopening of the turf field will take place in the spring of 2013.
