Yorktown High School Student Wins First Place at New York Science Congress Competition

From the Yorktown Central School District:

Yorktown High School student Kaitlin Ferguson won first place last month at the New York Science Congress competition, sponsored by the Science Teachers Association of New York State (STANYS).

Participating students represented the top projects nominated by STANYS affiliated regional science fairs in New York State. In April, Ferguson won the top spot at the Tri-County Science Fair which allowed her to move to the state level. Students presented their projects to judges in a poster style format, with approximately seven minutes to deliver their presentations and five minutes for questions.

Ferguson did her research last summer at New York University on the biochemistry of the brain in relation to aggression. Her work is titled, “The Periaqueductal Gray and its Relation to Aggression Modulation.”

She will return to NYU this summer to continue her project at an even more advanced level.
