Carolina Casin-Silva, one of the most versatile runners who can make the transition from short to middle to long distance, is eyeing a return trip to the New York State championship. The Lakeland/Panas senior, who shined in the 300 meter and 1000 meter races on the spring track circuit, has adjusted to the longer distances of grueling cross-country courses. She coasted through the flats and declines of Bowdoin Park's rigorous 3.1 mile course Saturday, darting up the hills and gutting out a seventh place finish.

Casin-Silva clocked a time of 20:12.54 and fended off a late surge by Tappan Zee's Megan Jaskot (eighth place, 20:14.85). Bronxville's Mary Cain surged ahead of the front pack, churning out a scorching 18:02 to claim first overall. With this time, the sophomore standout shattered the Section 1 girls record at Bowdoin, arguably one of the more difficult 5k courses in New York State.

Yorktown Claims First Soccer Title in over 20 Years 

In the renewed blood feud on the pitch, Yorktown defeated Lakeland 3-1 to gain sole possession of the League 1-B title. With an overall record of 12-2-1, the Huskers may have additionally copped a top-3 seed in the upcoming Section 1/Class AA tournament.
