Yorktown Appoints President and Vice President of BOE, Swears in Two School Board Members

The appointments were made during Monday's board of education meeting, one board members was sworn in, while the other had been sworn in at a previous meeting.

The Yorkown Board of Education president and vice presidents were re-elected to their current positions Monday night and the two board members who were elected in May were sworn in. 

President Jackie Carbone, and Vice President Karen Corrado were re-elected during this week's board of education meeting. Board member Michael Magnani was sworn in that night, while Anthony D'Alessandro had been sworn in during a previous meeting. 

Carbone and Corrado were nominated for their positions by D'Alessandro. Yorktown board of education members unanimously voted each person into his and her position. Each president and vice president serves a 1-year term and board members are elected for three years.

Magnani is the liaison for Foundation for Excellence and the Huskers Sports Club. D'Alessandro is the alternate liaison to the town board. Corrado is the liaison for the District PTA Council, SEPTA, and First Nighters. Carbone is the liaison for NYSSBA and she is a Westchester Putnam School Board Association Board Member.

Board member Mark Drexel has officially given his resignation and he would no longer serve on the school board. Members of the school board are now seeking letters from residents of the school district interested in serving on the board of education. The appointed individual will serve until the next school board election, May 15, 2012. Interviews will take place at the Board Meeting on Aug. 29, Those who are interested in serving can submit a letter of interest and resume to district clerk Rebecca Narvaez at Rnarvaez@yorktown.org or by mail to Rebecca Narvaez, District Clerk, 2725 Crompond Road, Yorktown Heights, New York, 10598. The deadline is Aug. 15.

In addition, members of the school board reappointed Rebecca Narvaez as District Clerk, Kevin Liebertz as District Treasurer and Joanne Odoardi as Deputy Treasurer.

Monday night, board members approved to accept the donation from the Cushner family of four $500 gift cards (for a total of $2,000) to sponsor a breakfast or luncheon as determined by the building. The four cards are to go to the MESMS faculty and staff, YHS faculty and staff, YCSD district office and YCSD building and grounds staff. 

Also, that night, board members awarded a $247,900 bid to general construction to NAC Industries for the demolition and abatement of the Farmhouse.To read the full story, click here.
