Upon perceiving the need of a website for the Huskers Club, Samantha Franks set the goal of creating a comprehensive site for the Huskers community. Six months later, the green, black, and white Huskers Club website was introduced in April.

“The key to success was to just stay on track and focus on creating a finished product,” Franks said. “I also wanted parents to get more involved and I wanted to bring the sports community closer together.”

The site that Franks designed for convenient access to upcoming events, sports games, and fundraisers has been accessed by more than 1,000 visitors.

“Her efforts have been a huge benefit to the club,” said Mark Vercruysse, the president of Huskers Club. “We can post information quickly and easily, and this facilitates complete communication with our members.”

Franks commenced her website work last September with a presentation to the Girl Scout council. The website proposal was her Gold Award project. With advices from Huskers Club members and Karli Wheeler, the Media Manager of Yorktown Central School District, Franks designed the website and continues to update it.

“She managed this project as a true professional by researching other athletic booster web sites,” Wheeler said. “The Yorktown Central School District is in the process of transitioning to new web sites, and this is a good opportunity for each of our community partners, including the Huskers, to have their own web pages to strengthen communications with their constituents.”

The Franks family is composed of avid Huskers supporters. Parents, Mark and Gina, are Huskers Club Executive Board Corresponding Secretary and in charge of the Huskers store at Yorktown High School, respectively. 11-year old lacrosse player, Justin, practices stick plays with his sister Samantha, a Varsity Lacrosse scholar athlete.

“We are so very proud of the initiative Samantha took in accomplishing her goal,” said Fran Wilson and Ellen Ottstadt, co-leaders of Girl Scout Troop #1473. “Over the years we have watched her grow into a remarkable young woman. She will receive her Gold Award by December.”
