Snow Days in Yorktown, Lakeland, Somers: See Plans for Makeup Days

Yorktown, Lakeland and Somers school districts are among many school districts across the area to use snow days last week and again on Dec. 17. Both Yorktown and Lakeland have used three days and Somers took two days.

State law in New York requires at least 180 school days, individual districts—including those experiencing identical weather—often have different ways of accommodating cancellations within the academic calendar.

With more snow already here, Patch is taking a look at local districts' plans.

Here's the breakdown:

  • Yorktown The district has five inclement weather days built into the calendar. If they are exceeded, make up days will be taken in the following order: Monday, April 14; Thursday, April 17; Tuesday, April 15; Wednesday, April 16; Friday, April 18
  • Lakeland — If more than six snow days are used, make-up days would be scheduled for May 23, then April 21, and then either Feb. 14 or March 21
  • Somers — Once the district uses its four inclement weather days that are built into the school calendar, make up days will be taken in the following order May 23, April 21, April 14 and April 15.
