Man Wins $25,000 Scratch-Off

His ticket was purchased at the Steinmann Deli in Yorktown.

Christmas came a little bit later for one Dobbs Ferry resident who won $25,000 in the New York Lottery.

Carmine Mobilia purchased his winning Multiply Your Money! scratch-off ticket at the Steinmann Deli at 2712 Gomer St. in Yorktown Heights. Mobilia will be able to cash in his prize at one of the lotteries services centers, which includes Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway.

The New York Lottery is the country’s largest and most profitable lottery, according to the press release, which contributed about $2.9 billion in 2011-12 for New York State Education. The lottery contributes 15 percent of total state education funding to local schools districts.

Great news " The lottery contributes 15 percent of total state education funding to local schools districts." and yet every year our school taxes go up.

Only a 15% profit margin. And you have to pay taxes on your winnings. How many political hacks and friends of the GOV. are on the payroll ? Was there ever an audit of the books and records done ? Even through the local vender gets about 6 cents per ticket it makes people hope.

Hey Mr. Frank your about 32 years late with your question. As part of the State of New York starting a lottery in 1980 was that the poceeds would be used as addiditional funds for education. The big mistake made at the time was that local governments could not reduce the education budget and replace it with lottery revenue. It was suppossed to have been an addition, not a replacement which exactly what it has become. The article does not state that the lotteries margin is 15%. That's the % of the education budget that comes from lottery revenue. Also if you want to see weekly P & L's from lottery and gaming it's listed on the lottery website.

Well since you've got money to support the NRA, which pomotes and advocates, the selling of assault weapons, 30 round clips & strips, promotes the production of intentionally more destructive ammunion, and drums that allow you to fire 100 shot gun blasts in less than a minute. All these items are not for hunting, target practice, or home/self protection. I am not against the 2nd ammend., I am against the NRA which is willing to do "nothing" to stop the wholesale distribution of these weapons & clips, etc. These are weapons of war, & law enforcement. In the public's hands it makes mass killing easier and faster to deliver mass carnage. What happened in Ct. is a sad, sad example of this fact. The actual killing spree took less than two minutes for the shooter to kill 20 six year olds, 6 school officials and himself. Than after a week of silence the NRA's only response is to say arming teachers and putting a Police Officer in every school. Will solve everything. Well there were armed police at Columbine and we all know how that worked out....

@ Brian Mac, and just where were those "armed" police? If we continue to put up signs "gun free zone' we will continue to advertise that there are no people on the premises that have fire arms. It is like having an armored car carrying money with guards without weapons. The NRA supports the Second Amendment. People like you that say they support the second amendment have NO idea what that amendment actually means. People that want stricter gun control will also tell you that they DON'T want to take your guns away. They said that in Germany, back in the 1930's. You see how that worked out.

Well Mr. McVetty, I don't visit this site that often, but you seem to be here daily and respond to almost every story every day. Your question about the Police I mentioned in my previous comments. In Columbine there were two cops assigned to the school and were present on the other end of the school when the shooting began. because of the amount of weapons the had the police had to pull back. They than waited for more officers. But they did'nt re-enter the school for hours and after ther two kids committed suicide. Than in the VA. tech. shooting. They had there own campus police dept (which many, many colleges have and once again the shooter killed over 30 people. So the NRA's solution was just there usual bunch of bull. All to scare people, and oh yeah sell more guns. I find it disgusting that since the NRA made their garbage speach. The Bushnaster is flying off the shelves.
