Reading teacher Linda Bressan has taught every grade – from kindergarten to eighth grade – throughout her career which began when she was sophomore in college after answering a posting for a summer school teacher. Bressan said passed the needed exams and got licensed as a kindergarten and a health education teacher.

After graduating college, she got a job as a second grade teacher in PS 87 in the Bronx. She also taught 5th grade math and 6th grade socials. But after creating two new curriculums and working for the year, Bressan was laid off for a year.  After that, she got a job in the South Bronx where she taught for three years before being hired back in PS 87.

In 1992, Bressan moved to Brewster. But the commute to the city for work wasn't easy. She sent out her resume and eventually took the job with the Somers School District teaching eighth grade Reading.

"After 10 years, I went to seventh grade and now I am ending my career in sixth grade," she told Patch. "I am proud to say during my career I taught every grade from kindergarten to eighth grade."

Patch: How do you describe your experience in the Somers Central School District?

Linda Bressan: I loved teaching in Somers. The students were great and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was involved in many changes throughout my teaching of Reading. Staff changes and program changes were commonplace. These changes were always positive, looking for the best for our students. I enjoyed taking classes and learning new ways of teaching. These changes renewed me and challenged me. I always went in with a smile and did my best.

Patch: What will you miss the most?

Bressan: I will miss the students and my friends, and taking classes and going to workshops and just learning new things.

Patch: What are you looking forward to in retirement?

BressanI look forward to traveling and having more time with my family.

Patch:
