Lakeland Students Honored by National Merit Scholarship Program

National Merit Scholarship commended students in Lakeland School District.

Three students from the Lakeland School District have been honored in the 57th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Walter Panas's Gregory Zedlovich and 's Meghan McGowan and Colleen Riordan have been named National Merit Commended Students.

Of the 1.5 million students who took the PSAT/National Merit Qualifying exam in October 2010, only 34,000 of the high scorers received Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
