Four Lakeland High School Graduates Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Four Lakeland High School graduates, who are former student athletes, were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 14.

Four graduates, who are former student athletes, were inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 14. The induction ceremony was held during the annual homecoming football game at the high school.

The inductees are: Danielle Fiore, Class of 2004; John Scialdone, Class of 1988; Michael Meadows, Class of 2005; Joel Shapiro, Class of 1985.

Danielle Fiore played field hockey and softball at the high school. She is finishing her studies at Mercy College. Fiore is currently the head field hockey coach at Briarcliff High School.

Michael Meadows played football while in high school and graduated in 2005. He is currently teaching physical education for the New York City School System, and is the assistant coach for Lakeland Varsity Football as well as the assistant coach for the merged Lakeland/Panas/Putnam Valley Varsity Boys Swim Team.

John Scialdone is a 1988 Lakeland graduate, who played football and still holds several individual Lakeland records. Scialdone went on to Iona College and had an outstanding career on the field and in the classroom. He is the managing Director of Legend Trading in Manhattan. He was a member of the New York Mercantile Exchange for 10 years as a commodity trader. The man still mentors many young athletes in the community.

Joel Shapiro is a 1985 Lakeland graduate, who played baseball and had an outstanding career at Lakeland. He was a member of the Lakeland Baseball team when they were ranked #1 in Westchester. Shapiro is married to Sylvia Shapiro and they have four children, Josh, Jessica, Rachel and Sarah. The entire family enjoys traveling and staying active. He is the president and owner of an insurance company in the Jacksonville area.
