Four Candidates Vie for Three Open Seats on Lakeland Board of Education

Robert Rodriguez, a school administrator in the East Ramapo School District, will be added to the ballot when voters head to the polls on May 15.

Four candidates – three incumbents and one challenger are running for the three open seats in the board of education race.

Incumbents Carol Ann Dobson, James B. Carroll, Jr. and Brian Hugick will seek re-election for their seats, according to  clerk Kathy DeMaio. The three Cortlandt Manor residents will be challenged by Mohegan Lake resident Robert Rodriguez (not pictured here), a school administrator in the East Ramapo School District.

Dobson is currently the school board's vice president, who is running for her fifth three-year term. She has been active in the community for a number of years and serves on Management Policy Committee, Wellness Committee and District Parents' Council. 

Trustee Hugick, a high school science teacher, serves on the Audit Committee Construction Committee and Legislative Action Committee. He is running for his third term on the board.

Trustee Carroll, who works in pigment research at BASF Corporation and serves on the Management Policy Committee, Safety/Management Committee, is running for his fifth term. 

The deadline to submit their nominating petitions was April 16 and the election is on May 15, when taxpayers would also be voting on the .

First of all, I don't understand why teachers are paying for anything out of pocket when the supplyRead More lists that parents receive at the end of the summer are as long as their arms. Secondly, SOCIETY lets the kids down?!?!? I think the school taxes in Yorktown should be sufficient so that the teachers don't have to pay any out-of-pocket expenses. SOCIETY does not let the kids down, it is those who are in control of the school tax monies who let the kids down. Perhaps the administrators should take salary cuts, or maybe we should even eliminate some of those administrative positions. No teacher should have to pay for supplies out of pocket.
