False Rumors of a Threat to YHS Persist

Yorktown schools Superintendent Ralph Napolitano finally wrote to parents to reassure them.

An unfounded rumor that there was a threat to Yorktown High School began circulating Dec. 19.

Staff and police investigated and confirmed it was nothing.

"Unfortunately, through social media, the rumor has circulated further throughout the school community today," said schools Superintendent Ralph Napolitano in a letter to parents. "Once again, we reconfirmed today what we determined yesterday with school administration and representatives from the Yorktown Police department.  Again, there is no truth or accuracy to the rumor."

Napolitano said he wrote to parents with reluctance, because he did not want to give any credence to false rumors. However, he said, he knows anxiety levels are high.

He implored parents to dispel hurtful rumors and encourage their children to take real concerns to responsible adults.
