BOCES Educator Named 'Emerging Leader'

Fred Ende, who oversees BOCES' Science 21 program, has been named an emerging leader

’ regional science coordinator has been named an emerging leader by national educational by leadership program.

Fred Ende, who oversees BOCES’ Science 21 program, was among 26 emerging leaders chosen this year by ASCD, formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. All those selected are enrolled in a two-year program where they have the opportunity to attend a national conference, work with a mentor and encounter new ideas, resources and best practices.

"It was an honor to be chosen," Ende said. "The award has the potential to greatly influence Science 21 and the work we do here. I’ll be able to share and report on national/international educational developments, and will have a chance to work with a number of educational leaders around the globe."

ASCD Executive Director and CEO Gene Carter congratulated the Emerging Leaders and said “ASCD’s mission to support the success of each learner requires thoughtful, creative leaderswho can visualize the future and marshal the resources to create that future.”

Emerging leaders have typically been in the profession between five and 15 years, have a marked interest in making a positive contribution to education policy and practice, and have invested in professional growth opportunities aimed at improving student outcomes. The 2012 Class of Emerging Leaders is professionally and ethnically diverse and hails from across the globe.
