Students Design for Upcoming Fashion Show
Gaby Zhagui from Ossining is working on a red flamenco-type dress because “I love the culture of Spain.” Carly Lembo’s blue draped skirt is “inspired by the Ice Hotel in Sweden.” Millie Lazo had visions of Venice when she designed her gold-lame-style gown. These Fashion Design and Merchandising students at The Tech Center at Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES are getting ready for their upcoming spring fashion show, Travel in Style, with a foreign country of choice serving as their inspiration.
“They are hard at work on their ideas,” said teacher Lisa Tobin. Each student must produce eight designs for the show, which will take place on May 22 at The Tech Center and is open to the public.
Mayra Tenesaca from Hendrick Hudson High School said that her pink gown was inspired by her sister’s trip to Japan. “She brought back pictures, and the cherry blossoms really inspired me, with their different shades of pink and white.”

Samantha Calderon from Mahopac chose Malaysia as the inspiration for her gown. “The women there wear flowy fabrics, so I wanted to put a contemporary spin on that.”
