P/NW BOCES Presents New Post-Graduate Credential for Students with Disabilities

Representatives from the Somers, Croton, Ardsley and Yonkers school districts, as well as private schools for students with disabilities, attended a recent training session facilitated by Lower Hudson RSE-TASC on the new Career Development Occupational Studies (CDOS) credential.

“The CDOS credential is a new credential that will be available for students with disabilities beginning this year,” explained Laure Levine, RSE-TASC Regional Special Education Training Specialist.  “As a result of this new certification, we hope to improve the post-secondary outcomes for students with disabilities.”

Topics covered at the session, which was facilitated by Levine and Kit Casey, RSE-TASC Transition Specialist, included graduation options for students with disabilities, eligibility for the CDOS certificate, components of the CDOS credential, CDOS standards, and how districts can implement the credential.

“Students who choose to earn this certificate will be participating in work-based learning and will be actively involved in their own career planning,” said Levine.

The CDOS credential can provide students with work-readiness skills leading to entry-level employment. Examples of such entry-level opportunities might include employment in fields such as food service, retail or office maintenance.
