Pines Bridge Students Celebrate Thanksgiving in a Big Way
The delicious aromas of Thanksgiving wafted down the hallways at the Pines Bridge School on Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES’ Yorktown campus this week. The school, which serves the needs of children with multiple disabilities, has hosted an impressive “Thanksgiving Feast” for many years, and it has become a beloved tradition among both the school’s students and staff.
Michele Smail, a Teaching Assistant at Pines Bridge, helped coordinate this year’s feast, which included a fully decorated gym and tables laden with Thanksgiving favorites, such as stuffing and cranberry sauce. “It is a great day for everyone to get together and celebrate the holiday,” said Smail.
The feast is a true team effort. BOCES kitchen staff prepares and carves the turkeys; school staff and parents supply the rest of the dishes, as well as all of the paper goods; and students create decorations for the gym, including original centerpieces for every table.

The event is primarily for Pines Bridge students; however, invitations are extended to many members of the BOCES family, including the Walden School (also on the BOCES campus), Fox Meadow (a BOCES-run middle and high school located nearby), The Tech Center; administrative staff; and BOCES retirees .
“This is a great tradition that has been going on for many years,” said Smail. “Hopefully we can continue it for many more to come.”
