Mahopac Board of Ed Honors Nicholas Furer

Nicholas Furer, a Television Production and Digital Film student at The Tech Center of Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES, was honored by the Mahopac Board of Education at its March 18 meeting.  BOCES Assistant Superintendents John McCarthy and Lynn Allen were on hand as Career Academy Principal Stephen Lowery made the presentation.

The talented young man was an obvious choice for Student of Distinction, according to his teacher, Liz Marques. “Nicholas is an outstanding student,” Ms. Marques said. “He’s got perseverance, drive, and an incredible work ethic. He’s willing to take on any project.”

Nicholas, a senior at Mahopac High School, has always loved film. So when he discovered the program at The Tech Center, he knew it was for him.

“I’ve learned so much more about film here than I ever would have otherwise,” Nicholas said. He even has his own professionally printed business cards so he can network with potential customers wherever he goes.

When he’s not at school, Nicholas spends time volunteering, filming school board meetings and other community events. He even worked on a commercial for a public relations company.

“Nicholas received first place in New York State for Digital Cinema Production,” Marques said. “He has the whole package—I know that he’ll be a success!” That sentiment was echoed by the Mahopac school board members and the audience, who gave Nicholas a standing ovation for his achievement.
