Haldane Tech Center Student Honored

Haldane High School student Giana Grandetti had not one, but two reasons, to be proud at the last Haldane Board of Education Meeting. Grandetti was honored as a Student of Distinction at the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES Tech Center, and also as a member of Haldane’s Varsity Girls Soccer Team, which came in second in New York State.

An Advanced Baking student, Grandetti came to The Tech Center to study something she had grown up with — working in the kitchen. “I’m 100 percent Italian, and we are always in the kitchen,” she said. “I love to cook, and my brother is also a chef. I really enjoy being with my family in the kitchen.”

Grandetti, who would like to study business management in college as well as pursue her passion for Pastry Arts, sees her dream job someday as being in the food business with her family. “I would love to run a restaurant with my family,” she said.

“The amazing thing about Giana is that I never have to ask her to do anything — even the dishes!” said Chef Jenn Guiffre, who nominated Grandetti as The Tech Center Student of Distinction. “She’s always working with a smile before I have to ask.”

In addition to her work in Advanced Baking, Giana volunteers in the fire department in Cold Spring, is active in her church and plays soccer for Haldane High School. “I love being part of a team,” she said.

Grandetti, who received her Student of Distinction Award at the the Haldane Board of Education meeting on January 7, said she thought it was great that there was an award that recognized “different paths to success. It is nice to be recognized for my actions; I try to be the best person I can be.”

Her father, Paul Grandetti, said “She’s every bit what they gave her the award for – hardworking, talented and kind.”

Chef Jenn has no doubt that Giana will make her dreams a reality. “Giana will succeed,” Chef Jenn said, “not just because she has a great skill set, which she does, but because she is a good soul who knows what to do and who isn’t afraid of hard work.”
