Somers Road Closures, Gas Shortage, What's Open

Here is an update from Somers Supervisor Mary Beth Murphy: The Town continues to work at reopening roads but depends on NYSEG to neutralize fallen wires first. Routes 139 and 202 are now open. NYSEG reports that most of Somers power will be on by late Sunday. Individual area estimates are on NYSEG’s website.

Do not attempt to touch downed wires as they may be energized.

Dry ice was available today at 3 p.m. between the Somers Middle School and Somers Intermediate School while limited supplies last. 

Dozens of roads remain closed or barely passable. A state of emergency still exists and unnecessary travel is prohibited. Concern regarding a regional shortage of gasoline has cars waiting at gas stations impeding travel. Conserve gas...do not travel unless essential. 

Sheltering at the heritage hills activity center remains available to all residents. 

Showers are available at the New York Sports Club in Baldwin Place.

Saint Luke’s Church at Routes 100 & 202 is available for charging electronics and warming. St Luke’s is serving pot luck community dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Frozen and canned food can be donated for future meals. Refrigeration is available at St. Luke’s Church for labeled medications that need storage. It is an Optimum Wi-Fi hot spot. 

DO NOT operate generators or barbecue grills indoors. This is a fire hazard and introduces deadly carbon monoxide into your home and can be fatal.
